Bad Geometry of God

Published 2002; revised 2011

The Bible declares that:

* The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried by the fire, purged from the earth, refined seven times. (Psalm 12:6 Douay-Rheims)

* You shall not add to the word that I speak to you, neither shall you take away from it: keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you. (Deuteronomy 4:2 Douay-Rheims).

The two verses tell us that Man doesn't have any authority to add or alter the word of god. He doesn't have the authority to change even a single letter of the bible. The holy book is divine, pure, without errors, and doesn't lie.

But surprisingly, the bible preaches the earth has edges, ends, with four corners, with foundations and pillars and never moved and heaven is flat. Here are some of the biblical evidence:

So that it could take hold of the edges of the earth and shake the wicked out of it? ... Job 38:13 (Complete Jewish Bible)

He will hoist a banner for the Goyim, assemble the dispersed of Isra'el, and gather the scattered of Y'hudah from the four corners of the earth... Isaiah 11:12 (Complete Jewish Bible)

You fixed the earth on its foundations, never to be moved... Psalm 104:5 (Complete Jewish Bible)

He shakes the earth from its place; its supporting pillars tremble... Job 9:6 (Complete Jewish Bible)

Haven't you known, haven't you heard that the everlasting God, ADONAI, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not grow tired or weary? His understanding cannot be fathomed... Isaiah 40:28

Ergo, It is crystal clear that the above Biblical lines claim that the Earth has Edges, has Four Corners, has Pillars, has Foundations, and is never to be moved.

Now, there is a verse, Isaiah 40:22, that speaks that Earth is Round. Does this biblical line really claim the Earth is round or a flat circle?!

Let us read what the Verse says:

He who sits above the circle of the earth - for whom its inhabitants appear like grasshoppers - stretches out the heavens like a curtain, spreads them out like a tent to live in... Isaiah 40:22 (Complete Jewish Bible)

Geometry tells us that a circle is a flat round surface. So this means that the earth is not round like a sphere but a flat surface in a circular shape. Although there is no word for the sphere at those times, it is possible that the circle may mean a sphere. However, if we take the latter as the correct one, then we refute the former bible verses I presented above. Because science tells us that the earth has no corners, no pillars, and foundations and it moves around the sun and rotates on its axis.

Another interesting proof that the bible is not an inspired word of an all-knowing god can also be found in the same verse. It talks about grasshoppers that can be seen in the sky. Objects, like cars, can be seen too small like matchboxes at a cruising altitude of 35,000 to 39,000 feet. Insects on the ground at these heights can't be seen by the naked eyes.

So, what is the possible height required to see a well fully grown grasshopper on the ground? The tallest mountain on earth is around 34,000 feet tall, so God could not be sitting on a mountain, he would not also see any grasshopper on the base. The tallest building is 3000 feet tall. Can god see insects on this height? Possibly, yes! But there are no skyscrapers at those times, so the most possible place where god was sitting was on the clouds. The altitude for low clouds ranges from 2000 to 3000 feet high from the ground. It is possible God can see grasshoppers on this vantage point.

However, If the clouds are assumed as heavens in this verse, then is this altitude the place where God resides?

By the way, in Genesis 9:12- 17, do you know that biblical writers thought that rainbows never existed on earth before the flood?
